Magna Opus

The Magna Opus, Terra Verde

This is our vacation home, purchased in the fall of 2008.

"Magna Opus" is a play on, well, the phrase magna opus (which is latin for magnificent or great work) and the name of the model, "Magna Bay", named by the builder. Little bit of a back story here, so let me fill you in.

After our first two trips to Disney World, and subsequent planning for a third, I began looking for options for both an investment as well as an affordable and comfortable place to stay.

After much research both on my own as well as with our extremely knowledgable and helpful real estate broker, Marcus Truett, we found a perfect location (10 minutes from Disney World) in a perfect gated community (Terra Verde) for a perfect price.

We took a quick day trip down to Orlando after making our bid, met with the owner of our property management company, looked at a few homes from our interior design/furnishing team, and two months later we were proud owners of our first vacation home!

So next steps were to completely bring back the home to "model home" quality. We spent the next two months working remotely in Chicago with people in Kissimmee to try to get everything arranged for a trip down for my son's birthday in mid-January. It was a mad rush, and we really weren't sure entirely what to expect... we'd had pics sent to us via email of flooring, of paint selections, of different types of furniture, but we weren't REALLY sure what to expect when we finally arrived.

First, the home turned out better than I had ever imagined. It's hard to fully picture everything that might be when you're trying to do everything remotely, but our designer (Carmen from 4Front Interiors) did an absolutely wonderful job. As did out tiler, Chris from Taffy Tile. When we first looked at the home, there was some really worse-for-wear linoleum in the kitchen in bathrooms, and some carpeting on it's last legs in the living room and family room. We had Chris replace all that with tile, and it came out wonderful. We also had the home painted from top to bottom, with Carmen selecting colors and accent walls, and the new high gloss white on the trim and railing made everything look like a brand new model home.

Here are a few pictures that show off the wonderful job that was done.
